Accessibility Statement
CACCE-GWAN is committed to ensuring our website is accessible to all visitors, including people with disabilities.
Effective Date: March 28, 2026 · Last Updated: March 28, 2026 · Conformance Level: WCAG 2.1 AA
Our Commitment
The Caribbean-American Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise for the Greater Washington Area Network (CACCE-GWAN) is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability or technology. We actively work to ensure our digital content conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the current standard recognized under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Accessibility is not an afterthought for us — it is central to our mission of serving the entire Caribbean-American community in the DMV, including community members with visual, auditory, motor, cognitive and other disabilities.
Conformance Status
This website is substantially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Substantially conformant means that most content on the website meets the standard, and we are actively working to address any areas that do not yet fully conform.
Our accessibility measures include:
- Semantic HTML — proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions (
<main>,<nav>,<footer>), and meaningful structure - Keyboard navigation — all interactive elements are fully operable by keyboard alone, with visible focus indicators
- Skip to content link — allows keyboard and screen reader users to bypass navigation and jump directly to main content
- Alternative text — all meaningful images have descriptive alt text; decorative images are marked appropriately
- ARIA landmarks and labels — accordions, menus and dynamic content are fully labeled for assistive technologies
- Colour contrast — text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratios
- Responsive design — content adapts to all screen sizes and supports text zoom up to 200% without loss of content
- Reduced motion — animations respect the
prefers-reduced-motionsystem preference - Language declaration — the page language is declared (
lang="en") to assist screen readers - Link text — all links have descriptive, meaningful text rather than generic labels like “click here”
- No reliance on colour alone — information is never conveyed by colour alone
Known Limitations
While we strive for full conformance, some areas are still being improved:
- Third-party content — embedded calendars (Tockify) and social media content may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA. We have limited control over third-party tools but will seek accessible alternatives where possible.
- PDF documents — any downloadable PDF documents may not be fully accessible. We are working to remediate these as they are added to the site.
- Legacy images — some older images in the archive may lack optimal alt text. We review and update these on an ongoing basis.
